ENCOUNTER
with the artist Daniela Busarello and
the specialist in colour Sumikò Oé-Gottini
Tuesday, May 6, 2025
“Let’s explore with the artist Daniela Busarello and curator Sumiko Oé-Gottini how contemporary art engages the senses to create an immersive experience. Following in the footsteps of Frans Krajcberg, we will study how the sensitive in contemporary art is regaining a place that he, a visionary artist, has always honored in his work. Particular attention will be paid to the use of natural pigments and color, as phenomena that are both physical and ephemeral, blurring the boundaries between the tactile and the immaterial, the visible and the lived.”

Over the past ten years, Brent Stirton and Vincent Jolly have collaborated on some twenty reports, primarily focusing on environmental conservation issues. While many journalists and photographers choose to work separately, they choose to be together in the field. CONFERENCE
The 1970s–2000: Activist Art in France and Brazil
with Gilles Clément, Jacques Leenhardt, and Claude Mollard
Wedensday, February 15, 2021
What were the artistic commitments for the Planet on both sides of the Atlantic? Which “ecological” exhibitions in museums marked that era?
The 1975 exhibitions at the CNAC, the precursor to the Centre Pompidou, where Frans Krajcberg met Claude Mollard, and the 1996 exhibition “Villette-Amazone, Manifesto for the Environment in the 21st Century” (curated by Jacques Leenhardt and Bettina Laville), stand out as particularly powerful moments. These events drew huge public attention and sparked lively debates.
At La Villette, Frans Krajcberg transformed the Grande Halle with a forest of 140 “Revolts” — totems made from charred wood salvaged from deforestation. The catalogue’s manifesto boldly declares: “The 21st century will be cultural or it will not be.” Landscape designer Gilles Clément was also part of this movement. Three years later, at the same venue, he launched his Planetary Garden, “a political project of humanist ecology.”
CONCERT AND PROJECTION
Immersion into the world of the great composer Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887–1959).
Wedsneday, January 25, 2022
The composer Heitor Villa-Lobos is the emblematic figure of Brazilian “musica erudita” (classical music). Through his Portuguese and Indigenous roots, his adventurous life, his deep connection to France—particularly Paris—his commitment to bringing his music to the Brazilian people and establishing it on the international stage, as well as his genius and creative power, he has left an indelible mark on 20th-century classical music.
Screening of the film Heitor Villa-Lobos, the Soul of Rio, directed by Eric Darmon and co-written by Anaïs Fléchet — Arline Films production, 2008 (52 minutes).
Followed by a debate/conference led by Anaïs Fléchet, lecturer in contemporary history at Université Paris-Saclay, alongside Eric Darmon, Violaine Dufès, artistic director of Concert Impromptu, and Yves Charpentier, founder of the ensemble.
A musical dialogue featuring the works of Frans Krajcberg invites you to a Brazilian immersion into the universe of two artists who are Parisians at heart!

CONFERENCE
History of Indigenous Resistance in Brazil and
French Guiana
Wednesday, February 21, 2021
Do you remember that the Amazon rainforest extends into France and is part of the European Union? Do you recall that some Indigenous communities speak French and are our fellow citizens? As strange as it may seem, it is high time we raise alarm about their fate and that of the forest, which Frans Krajcberg and Sebastião Salgado defended with all their might.
Our second conference with Survival International aims to highlight Indigenous resistance in French Amazonia (French Guiana) and Brazil. We invite Jeunesse Autochtone de Guyane and Autres Brésils to share their testimonies.
